Indio

10 am to 2:30 pm:  127.8 miles

Well I did a foolish thing yesterday!   After I did the blog on the laptop I checked it on my phone.   The phone showed the draft text only,  no photos,  so instead of pressing "refresh" I pressed "publish".  I didn't think anything of it until a couple of hours later when I looked at my phone and saw it was still the draft text!   I had to redo it on the laptop.   Duh!

Last night was definitely an adventure.   Strong winds, rain,  major rattling of God only knows what.   We didn't poke our noses out the door until this morning.  The rain and strong winds continued this morning.  Getting out of Hesperia this morning was somewhat of a Keystone Kops routine hence the late start.

So cold and windy - just above freezing.  Brrrr - trying to close the gas cap

It started after breakfast when we decided we better gas up before leaving town.  Since Norm hurt his leg, I was going to pump the gas once I bundled up.  Undid the gas cap and swiped the credit card.  It told me to go to the cashier so I did and when I went in he wanted my ID which of course, was in the RV.  When I worked my way back to the cashier, he was nowhere to be found and after waiting several minutes, I pushed my way outside through cold and wind back to the RV and told Norm to never mind, we would go to another gas station.  We drove for a short while when Norm asked if I had closed the gas cap.  No.  So we pulled into a business to close it up and continued our search for a gas station.  When we found one, Norm decided he would pump the gas.  He opened the gas cap, swiped the credit card, was told to see the cashier, went it inside and finally gas started to pump.  Sounds like they would only process credit or debit cards of locals, everyone else had to go inside.  Naturally the search for the gas stations was in the opposite direction we wanted to go so when we finally got the gas, we had to backtrack! Wouldn't have mattered if it hadn't been soooo cold and sooo windy.

The drive through high desert and then going down to the low desert was interesting and gratefully warmer the lower we went.  Although locals feel this is very cool (and it's lower than normal), we find it lovely .  So looking forward to sleeping with open windows and no heater cranking up all  night.
